Be sure to back up your important files, pictures, data, or whatever – don’t skip this. We recommend that you have a full Time Machine backup in addition to the manual backup from which you plan to restore the data manually. Make a backup of Time Machine before you begin.If you don’t know what you’re doing with a manual file backup or a clean MacOS Sierra installation, don’t proceed, you’ll lose all your Mac data. This is NOT the same as using and restoring Time Machine.
Therefore, you must back up the data manually using the method you selected in advance. Wiping and starting clean is the whole thing here.
